Brazil''s role in the global oil scenario, production and revenue forecasts for oil production sharing agreements and the challenges of the Brazilian industry for the next years were some of the themes that drove the 2nd Pré-Sal Petróleo Technical Forum, held by Pré-Sal Petróleo for an audience of nearly 200 executives, business people and government representatives.

"Brazil is on the verge of becoming one of the five largest oil producers over the next decades and Pré-Sal Petróleo is an invaluable agent in achieving the goals provided by the Brazilian government", stated the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, on a pale that revealed that the government is aware of the possibilities for development of exploratory activities beyond the 200 nautical mile mark.

For nearly five hours of panels and discussions, a general impression of optimism prevailed regarding the future of the Brazilian oil industry. During a panel approaching Petrobras'' challenges and opportunities for the next decade, Carlos Alberto Pereira de Oliveira, Exploration and Production Officer at Petrobras, announced the company''s goal to decrease the time between discovery and the first oil for current projects from nearly three thousand days to one thousand days. In his view, cutting phases short and accelerating production "is positive for the companies and for the Federal Government".

Eduardo Gerk, Chief Executive Officer at Pré-Sal Petróleo, in turn, announced the results of the study carried out by the company''s strategic planning department, which forecasts that, until 2050, the oil production in the shared production agreement system may generate up to R$ 2.3 trillion in participation to the Federal Government, states and municipalities. From 2020 to 2032, main phase of the company''s work, participations may reach R$ 1 trillion.
